Part 2. Kobo not connecting to computer? How to fix!
First of all, please check whether the charging indicator show or not. If not, it is probably a hardware fault on the device. You need to test another PC to be sure.
1. Try a different USB cable.
Does the cable work with other devices? Some USB cables are power only and cannot be used for data transfer. You must be absolutely sure that your USB cable supports the data connections. Many cheap cables do not, and can be used for charging only.
2. Do a full reboot of both kobo and computer.
Sometimes a computer reboot or a Kobo reboot would work and sometimes not, but you should try this method.
3. Try a different port.
Have you tried plugging your Kobo into one of the back USB ports? Sometimes there is a voltage difference between USB ports that come directly off of the motherboard and ones that are on the front of the computer.
4. Disable wireless connection on kobo.
Make sure the wireless connection is disabled on the kobo. Sometime, the wifi connection causes the kobo not connecting to Mac. Turn off wifi on kobo will help you fix this issue.
5. Use an external USB hub.
In some cases, it is indeed the difference between voltages of the USB ports but if you have a laptop the voltages are almost always the same on all ports which is why it makes sense that only an external USB hub would work.
