Part 1. Turn off recommended books on Kindle
The default home screen of your kindle device is turned on automatically to ensure kindle users to see the kindle book recommendations. Follow the below instructions to turn it off.
To turn off recommended books on Kindle, go to Menu > Settings > Device Options > Personalize Your Kindle > Advanced Options> Home & Library> tap the button to turn off “Home Screen View”.

Part 2. How do I change my kindle recommendations?
Do you know that your personal Amazon recommendations are dynamic and change according to your browsing behavior and previous orders. So does your Kindle books recommendation on Amazon. Amazon allows us to change Kindle recommendations manually.
Step 1. Go to “Your Recommendations” page on Amazon.com.
Step 2. Go to “Improve Your Recommendations” tab to find your “Past Purchase”. Here you’ll see a list of everything you’ve purchased using your Amazon account. And then switch off the “Use this item form recommendations” button to exclude this item from all future recommendations when you are shopping on Amazon or get emails.
Additional steps: disable Amazon’s browsing history.
If you disable your Amazon’s browsing history, you can also turn off all Amazon recommendations. Login your Amazon account, and hover over “Account & list” and click the “Browsing history”.
In your browsing history page, click the arrow icon beside “Manage history” and click “Remove all items from view” to remove all items currently in your history and disable Amazon browsing history by setting the "Turn Browsing History On/Off" switch to the "Off" position. By doing so, Amazon will then set a browser cookie that will stop showing you recommendations.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite 10th generation. Firmware 5.16.4.
The method to turn off recommendations above does not work for me. Under Device Options > Advanced Options (which states I can Set view options for Home Screen and Library; manage device power, storage, device time, Kindle Updates, Privacy and Whispersync) I have:
Device Time
Home & Library
Update your Kindle (greyed out)
Whispersync for Books
Power Saver
Privacy
Storage Management
Under Home & Library I have:
Group Series in Library (on/off)
Collections
Audible Content
I've looked under the remaining headings and there is no Home Screen View or Next in Series.
Do you know of any other way of stopping these recommendations from being displayed.
There is so much 'advertising' on the front screen I can't stand it!!
